Sicily's 'Godfather' Castle Listed for €6 Million by Sotheby's
Italy Sotheby's International Realty has listed Castello Pennisi di Floristella in Acireale, Sicily, for €6 million. The 4,000-square-meter neo-Gothic castle, built in the late 19th century, features a private park of 8,500 square meters. It gained fame as the set for Francis Ford Coppola's 'The Godfather Part III' (1990), starring Al Pacino, Diane Keaton, Andy Garcia, and Sofia Coppola. The property also served as a location for Mauro Bolognini's 'Un bellissimo novembre' with Gina Lollobrigida. The castle survived the 1908 Messina earthquake and WWII Allied bombings, during which it was used as a German logistics base. Its interiors include paintings by Paul Pennisi, grandson of the baron who built the castle, and frescoes by Giuseppe Sciuti. The property comprises three connected buildings over two levels, with two rectangular towers, a monumental marble staircase, and a wooden coffered ceiling bearing the family crest. Potential uses include a luxury hotel, event venue, or private residence.
