Sicily: Culture and Conquest at British Museum Explores 4,000 Years of History
The British Museum in London will host "Sicily: Culture and Conquest" from April 21 to August 14, 2016, featuring over 200 objects spanning 4,000 years of Sicilian history. The exhibition focuses on two key periods: the arrival of Greeks from the second half of the 7th century BC and their encounter with Phoenician colonists, followed by the Norman domination. Many of the artifacts—marbles, bronzes, and terracotta works—come directly from Sicily. The show follows the museum's previous success with "Life and Death in Pompeii and Herculaneum," which attracted 471,000 visitors against a forecast of 250,000.
