Sicily appoints Sebastiano Tusa as new cultural heritage assessor

Following Vittorio Sgarbi's resignation in March 2018 after a turbulent tenure, Sicily's governor Nello Musumeci has appointed Sebastiano Tusa as the new assessor for Cultural Heritage. Tusa, a marine archaeology expert and former superintendent of the Sea, holds a degree in Palethnology and specializes in Oriental archaeology. He founded the Superintendence of the Sea in 1993 and has led archaeological excavations in Sicily, Libya, Tunisia, and Japan. He has authored over 700 essays and monographs and teaches Palethnology at the University of Suor Orsola Benincasa in Naples. Meanwhile, engineer Sergio Alessandro has been named Director General of the Department of Cultural Heritage. Alessandro previously served as technical director for the superintendencies of Palermo and Trapani, head of the Museographic Service, and director of the Museo Riso in Palermo from 2007 to 2012. Sgarbi will remain as a consultant for major exhibitions and the reconstruction project of Temple G at Selinunte.
