Sicilian sculptor Lorenzo Reina, creator of Teatro Andromeda, dies at 65
Lorenzo Reina, the Sicilian sculptor known for creating the Teatro Andromeda in the mountains of Agrigento, died on December 27, 2025, at the Fattoria dell'arte. He was 65. Reina was a prolific artist who worked with wood, stone, lead, bronze, water, and mineral pigments, exploring themes of transformation and return to origins. His most famous work, the Teatro Andromeda, is a circular stone theater built over 20 years on a pastoral archetype, hosting music, poetry, and literature events. It served as a set for commercials by Amaro Averna (2020) and Louis Vuitton (2023). The theater was featured at the 2018 Venice Architecture Biennale and in a Dylan Dog graphic novel (2025). Reina's rural complex, Fattoria dell'arte, opened in the early 2000s as a center for contemporary art production and hospitality. His life and work are documented in Davide Gambino's award-winning film "Pietra Pesante" (2013). Reina's recent creation, "La Madre," an architectural tufa structure, was added to his open-air museum. He is survived by his children Libero and Christian, and his wife Angela.
