SIC 39 Lineup at Venice Film Critics' Week Explores Contemporary Uncertainty
The 39th edition of the Settimana Internazionale della Critica (SIC), running from August 28 to September 6 at the Lido di Venezia, has announced a lineup of nine films, seven in competition. General delegate and artistic director Beatrice Fiorentino describes the program as a window on the world, reflecting the indeterminacy and global uncertainty of the present. The opening film is Planet B, a French cyberpunk science fiction film set in 2039, following activist Julia Bombarth who disappears into a mysterious world. The closing film is Little Jaffna, set in the Tamil community of Paris, about a police officer infiltrating a criminal gang. The only Italian film in competition is Anywhere Anytime, a social drama about Issa, an undocumented immigrant in Turin who becomes a food delivery rider and loses his bicycle. Additionally, SIC@SIC Short Italian Cinema presents seven world premiere short films. The official artwork for this edition, created by Emiliano Mammucari, Mauro Uzzeo, and Fabrizio Verrocchi, features dark blue and fire orange tones, described by Uzzeo as reflecting a world that has lost humanity, awaiting the next storm.
