Si On's Solo Exhibition 'It's a Lonely Road' Opens with Zoya Michailova Sound Collaboration
Si On's solo exhibition 'It's a Lonely Road' features a sound installation by composer Zoya Michailova, curated by Stach Szabłowski and Michał Sroka. The show centers on the sculptural installation 'Used People. A Pile,' made from used clothing previously employed in Si On's monumental work 'Doomsday' at the 2022 Venice Biennale. The artist's recurring protagonist figure dissolves into a crowd, exploring themes of collectivity, displacement, and apocalyptic tension. Si On's palette shifts to more subdued tones. Born in 1979 in Dangjin, Korea, Si On studied at Mokwon University in Daejeon and earned MA and PhD from Kyoto City University of Arts. She has lived in Kraków for the past decade. Her work incorporates found objects and references shamanism, comics, and folk art. Previous solo exhibitions include 'Beasts and Blossoms' at T293 Gallery in Rome (2024), 'I Am an Outcast from the World' at James Fuentes Gallery in New York (2023), and 'MAM Project 028' at Mori Art Museum in Tokyo (2020). Her works are held in collections of the Brooklyn Museum, High Museum of Art, Mori Art Museum, and MOCAK.
