Shuang Li's Fandom-Inspired Art Explores Global Connections Through My Chemical Romance and Lockdown Experiences
Born in 1990 in Wuyishan City, China, Shuang Li delves into themes of fandom and displacement through her artistic creations. During her 2022 performance, Lord of the Flies, held at a Shanghai exhibition while she was stuck in Europe due to COVID-19, she presented 20 avatars clad in My Chemical Romance T-shirts. This performance led to the creation of the video Déjà Vu (2022), which reflects on the experience of displacement during lockdowns. From December 12 to January 26, her solo exhibition at Peres Projects in Milan will recreate Lord of the Flies, incorporating concrete-cast boots and fan letters. In 2023, she encountered guitarist Frank Iero in New Jersey. Her work is also showcased in various exhibitions, including Paraventi at Fondazione Prada, Milan, until February 26, and a solo show at New York's Swiss Institute in May 2024.
