Shirley Temple's Wedding Home in Monterey Lists for $2.5 Million After Restoration

A historic residence on the Monterey Peninsula, where Shirley Temple wed Charles Black in 1950, has hit the market with an asking price of $2.5 million. Situated in the prestigious Aguajito Oaks area near the Del Monte Golf Course, this home was crafted by architect Robert Stanton and finished in 1940 for James Byers Black and his spouse, Katherine. Following a sale for $1.8 million in 2022, the current owners have made extensive renovations. This single-story adobe ranch encompasses roughly 2,200 square feet, featuring three bedrooms and three bathrooms, along with original hardwood flooring, 20-inch adobe walls, and wood-beamed ceilings. The living room, where the wedding occurred, boasts a wood-burning fireplace. David O’Neil of Sotheby’s International Realty, Carmel Brokerage, is handling the listing. Shirley Temple, who began her acting career in the early 1930s and starred in over 40 films, received a special juvenile Oscar at age 6. After her film career, she became a U.S. Ambassador to Ghana and Czechoslovakia and served as chief of protocol. She passed away in Woodside, California, in 2014.
