Shilpa Gupta's 'My East Is Your West' Installed in Gagliano del Capo for Three Years

A striking ten-meter illuminated installation by Shilpa Gupta, named 'My East Is Your West,' has been placed atop Palazzo Daniele in Gagliano del Capo, Italy, as part of the Capo d'Arte festival. This artwork, which will remain accessible to the public for a minimum of three years, addresses biases rooted in cultural and political perspectives related to geographic origins. Established in 2009 by Francesco Petrucci, Capo d'Arte is a non-profit organization that has welcomed over twenty international artists, such as Yang Fudong and Michelangelo Pistoletto, to the town. Petrucci remarked that Gagliano, home to 5,000 residents, has evolved from a peripheral area into a hub for global artistic exploration, with plans for a permanent public art collection in the future.
