Shen Xin and May Adadol Ingawanij discuss contemporary Chinese art at Lisson Gallery event

A conversation between artist Shen Xin and film curator May Adadol Ingawanij, moderated by ArtReview's Mark Rappolt, took place on September 4, 2019. This event coincided with the final week of the exhibition 'Afterimage: Dangdai Yishu' at Lisson Gallery in London, where Shen's work was included. The exhibition, guest-curated by Victor Wang, explores alternative genealogies of contemporary Chinese art (dangdai yishu) through works by artists born between 1960 and 1990. Featured artists range from established figures like Wang Youshen, Yu Hong, Lin Tianmao, and Xiang Jing to emerging practitioners such as aaajiao, Li Binyuan, Ma Qiusha, and Zhao Zhao. Several of these artists were presenting their work in the United Kingdom for the first time. The show aimed to trace different developmental paths within Chinese contemporary art.
