SHED and artpress Present Online Video Exhibition from Antoine de Galbert Collection

exhibition · 2026-04-24

The SHED contemporary art center in Normandy, in partnership with artpress, is presenting an online exhibition titled "Day for (your) Night" featuring 46 videos from the collection of Antoine de Galbert, available until August 31, 2020. The exhibition is a digital version of the physical 2016 exhibition "Day for Night" held at SHED during the Normandie Impressionniste festival, which focused on portraiture. Artistic director Jonathan Loppin discusses the collection in an interview with Étienne Hatt, noting that de Galbert collects works rather than videos per se, resulting in a diverse and politically conscious selection that includes performances by artists like Steven Cohen and Patty Chang. The online format allows viewers to watch at their own pace, but Loppin emphasizes that this is a temporary solution due to the pandemic and not a permanent shift. The article also includes archival material on Michel Blazy, Tania Mouraud, and Mohamed Bourouissa. Blazy's ephemeral works, such as "Voyage au centre" (2002), are acquired via certificates and video instructions, challenging traditional notions of art objects. Mouraud's video "la Curée" (2004) shows dogs fighting for meat, while her work "Sightseeing" (2002) ends at the Natzweiler-Struthof concentration camp. Bourouissa's "Temps mort" (2009) was co-created with an inmate using mobile phones, documenting prison life without sensationalism.
