Shaunak Mahbubani's AUTOPOIESIS exhibition at Arthshila Goa explores self-narration across South Asian coastal routes

exhibition · 2026-04-21

From December 6, 2025, to March 1, 2026, Arthshila in Goa will host AUTOPOIESIS: A Song for Resuscitation, curated by Shaunak Mahbubani. This exhibition is part of a traveling initiative that commenced in Berlin in 2022 and showcases artists from coastal areas such as Kerala, Goa, Karachi, the Malay peninsula, and Sri Lanka. It delves into the concept of 'adjacent topologies' shaped by memory, song, labor, and language. Featured works include Saviya Lopes' textile archive documenting her grandfather's migration, Jovita Alvares' light boxes depicting Goan Catholic migration, Priyageetha Dia's CGI video focused on rubber plantations, and Imaad Majeed's communal space featuring audio of Sri Lankan Muslim women's traditions. The exhibition highlights marginalized narratives and auto-narration as links among diverse artists and regions.
