Shary Boyle's Fantastical Works at Galerie de l'UQAM
Shary Boyle's exhibition 'La chair et le sang' at Galerie de l'UQAM in Montreal runs from January 7 to February 12, 2011. Curated by Louise Déry, known for her 2007 David Altmejd exhibition at the Venice Biennale, the show features Boyle's emotionally charged works blending mythology, folklore, and art history with themes of sexuality and human suffering. The exhibition includes paintings, drawings, installations, and porcelain statuettes that exemplify her subtle feminist violence. After a notable showing at the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) in fall 2010, the exhibition will travel to the Contemporary Art Gallery in Vancouver in summer 2011. A selection of Boyle's ceramics will also be shown at La Maison Rouge in Paris.
