Sharon Eyal's 'Delay the Sadness' Opens Torinodanza 2025

The 2025 edition of the Torinodanza festival, directed by Anna Cremonini and organized by Teatro Stabile di Torino, opened on September 5 with the world premiere of Sharon Eyal's new creation 'Delay the Sadness' at Teatro Carignano. The piece will have its official premiere on September 12 at Ruhrtriennale. Eyal, an Israeli choreographer based in France, developed the work during a residency at Orsolina28 Art Foundation in Monferrato and refined it at Teatro Carignano. The performance features eight dancers (four men, four women) in a symmetrically precise choreography with half-points, alternating ensembles, duets, and quartets. The score was composed by Joseph Laimon. Eyal, born in Jerusalem in 1971, previously danced with Batsheva Dance Company and co-founded S-E-D with Gai Behar in 2013; the company has been based in France since 2022. Eyal and Behar have collaborated with Opéra de Paris, Nederlands Dans Theater, Staatsballet Berlin, GöteborgsOperans Danskompani, Maria Grazia Chiuri, Hannah Barry Gallery, and Hauser & Wirth. The festival runs until October 5, featuring Ioannis Mandafounis, Christos Papadopoulos, (La)HORDE, Descents, Akram Khan, Peeping Tom, Michela Lucenti, Sofia Nappi, Daniele Ninarello, Francesca Pennini, MM Contemporary Dance Company, and YoY Performing Arts.
