Sharjah Biennial 15 Prize Winners Announced: Waheed, Khalili, Salcedo
The Sharjah Art Foundation has announced the winners of the Sharjah Biennial 15 Prize, honoring Hajra Waheed, Bouchra Khalili, and Doris Salcedo. Their works are part of the biennial, which runs until June 11, under the theme Thinking Historically in the Present. Waheed's installation, Hum II (2023), was created for the event and features songs linked to women's protest movements worldwide. Khalili's piece, The Circle (2023), highlights the Arab Workers Movement's activities in France during the 1970s. Salcedo’s installation, Uprooted (2020-22), uses 804 dead trees to comment on the refugee crisis and environmental harm caused by capitalism. Honorable mentions were given to several artists, with the jury including Elvira Dyangani Ose, Solange Farkas, and Salwa Mikdadi.
