Sharjah Biennial 12 titled 'The past, the present, the possible' scheduled for March-June 2015
Sharjah Art Foundation has revealed details for Sharjah Biennial 12, which will run from 5 March to 5 June 2015 in the Arts Area of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. Curated by Eungie Joo with associate curator Ryan Inouye, the biennial carries the title 'The past, the present, the possible' (SB12). The conceptual framework emerged from early 2013 discussions between artist Danh Vo and curator Joo, focusing on contemporary art's capacity to envision alternatives to current social and political limitations. These conversations emphasized the importance of artists actively participating in imagining potential futures beyond existing constraints. The biennial will take place at multiple venues throughout Sharjah's Arts Area, continuing the foundation's commitment to presenting ambitious international exhibitions in the Gulf region. This marks the twelfth edition of the long-running biennial that has established Sharjah as a significant cultural destination in the Middle East. The announcement provides nearly nine months of advance notice for the exhibition's opening in spring 2015. Further information about participating artists and programming will be available through the foundation's website at www.sharjahart.org.
