Sharjah Art Foundation Announces 2016 March Meeting Program with Desert Performance and Exhibition Openings

The Sharjah Art Foundation has revealed its March Meeting 2016 program, a three-day symposium running from March 11 to 13 that serves as a discursive platform for the upcoming Sharjah Biennial 13. Curated by Christine Tohmé and scheduled for March 2017, the biennial's groundwork will be established through this event. Titled 'Education, Engagement and Participation,' MM16 explores how institutions, artists, and curators prioritize relationships with audiences through keynotes, case studies, and panel discussions. A diverse lineup of speakers includes Zoe Butt of San Art, Susanna Chung from Asia Art Archive, Reem Fadda of Marrakech Biennale 6, Riyas Komu from Kochi Biennale Foundation, Rick Lowe of Project Row Houses, Tina Sherwell of International Academy of Art Palestine, and Christine Tohmé of Ashkal Alwan. Accompanying the symposium are exhibition openings at SAF featuring works by Simone Fattal (March 12–June 12), Joana Hadjithomas & Khalil Joreige (March 12–May 8), Farideh Lashai (March 12–May 14), and 'The Time is out of Joint' curated by Tarek Abou El Fetouh (March 12–May 12), which includes performances, film screenings, and discussions. A collaborative desert performance by Uriel Barthélémi and Taro Shinoda is scheduled for March 11. The program announcement was made on February 26, 2016.
