Sharjah Art Foundation acquires first permanent Rain Room installation with custom-designed modernist building
Sharjah becomes the first city worldwide to host a permanently installed version of Random International's Rain Room, acquired by the Sharjah Art Foundation. The installation, originally presented at London's Barbican Centre in 2012, has traveled globally and entered collections including New York's MoMA and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Architect Mona El Mousfy designed a modernist building specifically to house the work, located beside a park in the Al Majarrah district. While other versions exist, including a larger 150 sqm edition owned by Yuz Museum founder Budi Tek currently displayed in Shanghai, Sharjah's approximately 100 sqm edition marks the first with a dedicated permanent exhibition space.
