Sharjah Architecture Triennial Expands Definition of Architecture with Rights of Future Generations
The first Sharjah Architecture Triennial, named Rights of Future Generations, took place from 9 November 2019 to 8 February 2020. Curated by Adrian Lahoud and organized by the Sharjah Art Foundation, led by chairperson Hoor Al-Qasimi, the event showcased 35 projects at locations such as Al-Qasimiyah School and the historic Al Jubail market. It emphasized themes of environmental stewardship and land rights. Noteworthy installations included (all)zone's Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun, Dogma's Platforms, and Inheriting Wetness by Marina Tabassum Architects. Storytelling activated the Ngurrara Canvas II, while performances featured Nicolás Jaar's soundwork and Lawrence Abu Hamdan's Natq. Discussions covered water rights for the Quechua and humanitarian issues in Gaza, though local challenges in the UAE received minimal attention.
