Shao Chun's Riddle Bodies Exhibition Explores Hybrid Lifeforms at Macalline Art Center

At The Cloister Project within the Macalline Art Center in Shanghai, Shao Chun presents the exhibition Riddle Bodies, showcasing 15 installations that delve into hybrid lifeforms composed of both organic and inorganic materials. Featured works incorporate twisted cotton, soap water-filled plastic bags, and air pumps. The use of materials such as silicone, latex, fishhooks, and wigs contributes to a clinical look influenced by Victorian styles. Notable installations include Super Clean, The Lure, and Chaos Abacus-1. The entrance is adorned with urchin shells and embroidered frames. Air Chrysalid features misty plastic bags resembling jellyfish, while Fireplace-3 displays glass flasks with wigs. This exhibition, open until July 24, 2022, embodies Shao Chun's ten-year investigation into kinetic beings and themes of attraction intertwined with lethal intent, hinting at escapism in a crumbling reality.
