ShanghArt and Waldburger Wouters Open Joint Project Space for Art Basel

Chinese gallery ShanghArt will open a project space in Basel in collaboration with Brussels-based gallery Waldburger Wouters during Art Basel, running from June 11 to 17, 2018. The space is located on the banks of the Rhine, next to the five-star hotel Les Trois Rois. The official inauguration is on June 13. The collaboration highlights growing Chinese interest in the Western art market. ShanghArt, founded in 1996 by Swiss Lorenz Helbling, represents Chinese artists Zhang Enli, Sun Xun, and Yang Fudong, and has spaces in Shanghai, Beijing, and Singapore. Waldburger Wouters, originally Galerie Waldburger founded by Patrick Waldburger in Brussels in 2009, changed its name when Tim Wouters became a partner in 2014. Both galleries represent American artist Lynn Hershman Leeson, to whom the inaugural event is dedicated. The partnership was facilitated by the Swiss origins of both Helbling and Waldburger.
