Shanghai Biennale 2018 Theme 'Proregress' Unveiled by Curator Cuauhtémoc Medina
Cuauhtémoc Medina, the chief curator, has revealed the theme for the 12th Shanghai Biennale in 2018 as 'Proregress – Art in an Age of Historical Ambivalence'. This edition will be held at the Power Station of Art and aims to examine the present as a mix of conflicting trends. Topics include feminism addressing new misogyny and gender violence, the industrial economy's geographical shifts, xenophobia, religious and cultural fundamentalism, climate change, and the Anthropocene. Medina will co-curate with María Belén Sáez de Ibarra, Yukie Kamiya, and Wang Weiwei. The biennale seeks to explore our relationship to the past and the complexities of contemporary experience.
