Shane de Blacam Awarded 2023 Royal Academy Architecture Prize

Shane de Blacam, an architect from Dublin, has just won the 2023 Royal Academy Architecture Prize. This prize, which started in 2018, aims to highlight how architecture shapes culture and society. Before teaming up with John Meagher to establish de Blacam and Meagher in 1976, de Blacam worked at Chamberlain, Powell and Bon in London and partnered with the renowned Louis I. Kahn in Philadelphia and Connecticut. His firm has earned the Gold Medal and five Silver Medals for excellence in architecture and conservation, including the prestigious Gandon Medal from the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland. The international jury praised his buildings for their use of local materials and their significant impact on modern Irish architecture. Additionally, he is part of AOSDANA, a Government of Ireland initiative that honors artistic achievements.
