Sex, Clubs, Dissent: New Anthology Explores Queer Nightlife Photography

Edited by Amelia Abraham, the anthology 'Sex, Clubs, Dissent: Visualising Queer Nightlife' brings together archival photography and newly commissioned writings to showcase queer club culture. It features contributions from renowned photographers including Phyllis Christopher, Del LaGrace Volcano, Linda Simpson, and Wolfgang Tillmans, among others. Essays by Asa Seresin, Legacy Russell, Tourmaline, and McKenzie Wark, along with dialogues between Ajamu X and Rene Matić, enrich the collection. Abraham, a writer and editor based in London, initiated this project five to six years ago due to a lack of existing resources on the topic. The book highlights the interplay of pleasure, intimacy, and politics in queer nightlife, examining influences on mainstream fashion and critiquing superficial representations.
