Seville launches major Murillo quadricentennial celebrations

Seville is preparing to honor the 400th anniversary of Esteban Murillo's birth through the initiative 'Murillo e Siviglia. 400 anni dalla nascita di un pittore universale.' This event, backed by the Spanish government, will take place from December 1, 2017, until January 2019. Currently, a preview exhibition titled 'Velázquez e Murillo' is on display at the Hospital de los Venerables, showcasing 19 artworks. The celebration will feature temporary exhibitions across various cultural venues, including the Museo de Bellas Artes de Sevilla, which will present works related to the Retablo de los Capuchinos. Additionally, tourist routes will highlight significant locations associated with Murillo. Mayor Juan Espadas underscored the significance of this event for Seville's cultural legacy.
