Severance series breaks Emmy records with 27 nominations for season 2

The Apple TV+ series 'Severance' (Italian title: 'Scissione') has received 27 Emmy nominations for its second season in 2025, the highest number for any series this year. The show, created by Dan Erickson and directed by Ben Stiller, follows employees at Lumon Industries who undergo a 'severance' procedure that splits their consciousness between work and personal life. The first season won two Emmys in 2022 out of 14 nominations. The series has a budget of $200 million for season two alone, and a third season has already been confirmed. The show's aesthetic draws from 1960s corporate design and the Bell Labs complex by Eero Saarinen in New Jersey. Production designer Jeremy Hindle told The Verge that the computers and electronics were designed to 'not make much sense,' reflecting the purgatorial world of Lumon's basement. The score by Theodore Shapiro won an Emmy in 2022. The series debuted three years ago and concluded its second season earlier this year, building a passionate fanbase that engaged in detailed analysis and theory-crafting online. A live stunt featuring actors in a glass box at Grand Central Station in New York promoted the show. The 2025 Emmy Awards will take place in September.
