Seven Artists Shortlisted for Artes Mundi 7 Prize, Winner Announced in 2017
The Artes Mundi 7 Prize, the UK's top cash award for art, has revealed its list of seven finalists. The artists chosen are John Akomfrah from the UK, Neïl Beloufa from France and Algeria, Amy Franceschini with Futurefarmers from the USA and Belgium, Lamia Joreige from Lebanon, Nástio Mosquito from Angola, Hito Steyerl from Germany and Japan, and Bedwyr Williams from the UK. The winner, who will receive £40,000, will be announced in January 2017. A four-month exhibition showcasing both new and notable pieces by these artists will take place in Cardiff. This announcement was made on September 17, 2015. Previous winners include Xu Bing and Theaster Gates, among others.
