artist · 2026-05-04

Korean artist Seulgi Lee, based in Paris, has collaborated with IKEA on the Art Rugs project, which involves eight international artists designing rugs to be sold from spring 2019. Lee's rug, inspired by the proverb 'Happy as a fish in water,' incorporates traditional Indian dhurrie weaving techniques and was produced in Egypt and India. She also previously worked with Hermès, creating limited-edition cashmere throws presented at Salone del Mobile in Milan. Lee's solo exhibition at Gallery Hyundai in Seoul, running until December 23, 2018, features blankets embroidered with Korean proverbs and oral histories, using traditional Nubi silk techniques. The artist explores universal human experiences through textiles, giving new meanings to everyday objects.
