SetUp Bologna cancelled, replaced by charity exhibition
SetUp, the independent fair for emerging artists that ran for seven editions during Bologna Art Week, has been cancelled. Alice Zannoni, sole administrator of SetUp Art srl and co-founder with Simona Gavioli, announced the decision at a press conference. Gavioli now directs the new fair BOOMing Contemporary Art Show. Zannoni cited financial tensions and a dispute over the venue: Palazzo Pallavicini, used for the last two editions, had half the capacity of the former Autostazione space but double the cost. Zannoni opposed the move and stepped down as artistic director. SetUp is replaced by the exhibition Sono ancora qua. SetUp to be continued, held January 24–26, 2020, on the first floor of Autostazione—the original venue where SetUp Contemporary Art Fair launched in 2013. The show features over 30 artists, with works donated by artists and collectors to fund the fair's revival. No curatorial framework supports the exhibition; the proceeds from sales will finance SetUp's return.
