Sette opere per la Misericordia: Caravaggio meets contemporary art in Naples
The Pio Monte della Misericordia in Naples, home to Caravaggio's masterpiece, hosts the penultimate edition of 'Sette opere per la Misericordia,' curated by Mario Codognato. Seven scholarships for talented artists from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Napoli are awarded. International contemporary artists reinterpret the theme of mercy, as done four centuries ago. Works in photography, sculpture, and painting engage with the historic chapel. After the exhibition, all works are donated to the Pio Monte della Misericordia, joining its contemporary collection of over forty works by major artists and young talents. The project bridges ancient and contemporary art, a daring operation that is yielding results in Italian museums.
