Settantaventidue: New Milan Space Blends Art, Music, Books, and Design
Settantaventidue, a new nonprofit hub on Milan's Naviglio Grande, opened in November 2023. Founded by Alessandro Scotti with Giuseppe Ielasi, Nicola Mafessoni, Daniel Marzona, Luca Pitoni, Valentino, and publisher Bruno Tonini, the space merges contemporary art, architecture, sound art, design, and rare books. Scotti told Artribune the goal is to bypass the market, focusing on conceptual and radical research art that is often inaccessible in galleries. The space features multiple exhibition areas: Canal Project Room curated by Mafessoni and Marzona; Hypogeum for video and sound art; Noiseless for performances; Tubae, two street-facing vitrines; The Office with archival documents; and Billboard, a metal sign on a nearby railway bridge for public art, currently featuring Braco Dimitrijević's 'Casual Passer-by' series. On March 15, 2023, the new season opens with Pino Pascali's 'Baco da Setola' in Canal Project Room, an artwork from 1968 that was previously unseen from 1976 to 2021. Also showing is Joel Fisher's 'Apograph' in Tubae, featuring paper works made from his unsold pieces, emphasizing material reincarnation.
