Sesc Pompeia hosts Indigenous Diversity Day debates with Sebastião Salgado and Yanomami leaders
From April 19 to 21, Sesc Pompeia in São Paulo holds a free public debate cycle on the situation of Indigenous peoples in Brazil, featuring photographer Sebastião Salgado, Yanomami leaders Davi and Dário Kopenawa, and other activists and specialists. The events are part of the Amazônia exhibition programming and will be livestreamed on YouTube. The opening on April 19 at 8 PM in the theater addresses mining invasions and deforestation in the Yanomami territory over the past 30 years. On April 20, discussions focus on Indigenous conflicts in Acre related to road construction, while April 21 examines isolated Indigenous populations and recent contact. Only the first event requires advance ticket pickup. This initiative is part of Sesc-SP's Indigenous April, launched in 2019 to promote cultural diversity and challenge stereotypes about Indigenous communities. The program also includes the April 30 virtual premiere of the series 'Amazônia, Arqueologia da Floresta' on SescTV, directed by Tatiana Toffoli and produced by Elástica Filmes.
