Serpentine Galleries launch £10,000 social practice grant for artists

The Serpentine Galleries have launched a new fellowship programme titled 'Support Structures for Support Structures', awarding ten artists and collectives engaged in community-based practice with unrestricted grants of £10,000 each. The inaugural recipients include Barby Asante, whose project 'Declaration of Independence' created a conference space for women of colour to discuss slavery and colonialism; Turab Shah and Arwa Aburawa of Other Cinemas, who screen works by non-white directors; Abbas Zahedi; Beverley Bennett; Blak Outside; Ferarts Collective; Nawi Collective; Jacob V. Joyce; Resolve Collective; and Skin Deep. The programme was conceived in collaboration with Sumayya Vally, architect of the 20th Serpentine Pavilion, who stated that her practice focuses on amplifying diverse voices and that the fellowship aims to create a lasting legacy for the Pavilion.
