Sergio Sarra's 'Nature' at Palazzo Altemps: Contemporary Art Meets Ancient Sculpture

exhibition · 2026-04-27

The Palazzo Altemps in Rome, part of the Museo Nazionale Romano, is set to unveil a new exhibition called 'Nature' featuring the works of artist Sergio Sarra, who was born in 1961 in Pescara. Curated by Lorenzo Bruni and Ludovico Pratesi, the exhibit showcases Sarra's paintings on wood and paper in both the Sala isiaca and Sala grande del Galata, where they engage with classical sculptures from the collections of Ludovisi, Altemps, Riario, and Brancaccio. Sarra employs a non-invasive technique that reflects the historical context of the space through minimal installations that blend soft curves with sharp angles. Pratesi notes that Palazzo Altemps serves as an inviting venue for contemporary artists, akin to Sir John Soane's Museum.
