Sergio Risaliti Appointed Guest Curator of Contemporary Art at Capodimonte
Sergio Risaliti, 58, director of Florence's Museo Novecento since 2018, has been selected via public tender as guest curator of the contemporary art section at Naples' Museo e Real Bosco di Capodimonte. The museum, housed in the Reggia di Capodimonte and officially opened in 1957, holds a collection of historic and contemporary works by artists such as Alberto Burri, Mario Merz, Sol LeWitt, Andy Warhol, Louise Bourgeois, and Jan Fabre. Director Sylvain Bellenger, who has led Capodimonte since 2015, praised Risaliti's work in Florence and emphasized collaboration to foster contemporary art through residencies and training for young artists. Bellenger noted that the museum's ministerial autonomy allowed the appointment, and highlighted ongoing projects like the La Capraia Research Center with the University of Texas and the restoration of the Casa Canonica for artist residencies. Risaliti expressed alignment with Capodimonte's initiatives, including the 'Incontri sensibili' focus exhibitions that connect past and present, and plans to use the Bosco as an exhibition space. He views museums as cultural institutions for research, education, and social inclusion. Risaliti, a curator, critic, and art historian, has curated numerous exhibitions, including 'Jeff Koons. In Florence' (2015) at Piazza Signoria and Palazzo Vecchio, and has written for Artribune's 'Ultime Notizie' column during lockdown.
