Sergio Ramírez elected to seat 'L' at the Royal Spanish Academy
Sergio Ramírez, a Nicaraguan author, has been chosen to occupy seat 'L' at the Real Academia Española (RAE). His nomination was supported by RAE director Santiago Muñoz Machado, former director Víctor García de la Concha, and 2023 Cervantes Prize recipient Luis Mateo Díez. After losing his citizenship, Ramírez, who took part in the 1979 revolution, currently resides in exile in Madrid. He has written more than seventy books, such as 'Castigo divino,' 'Un baile de máscaras,' 'Margarita, está linda la mar,' 'La fugitiva,' and 'El caballo dorado.' Among his accolades are the José Donoso Iberoamerican Prize, the Carlos Fuentes International Prize, and the Cervantes Prize, with his works translated into over twenty languages.
