Sergio Coimbra's Supernova Series Debuts at Galeria ArtEEdições in São Paulo
Sergio Coimbra, known for his high gastronomy photography, has launched his first fine art series, Supernova, at Galeria ArtEEdições in São Paulo, running until June 28. The series originated from an experiment in the kitchen of chef Massimiliano Alajmo in Padova, Italy, where Coimbra built a machine to spin culinary materials like flour and pepper, creating spiral effects. Curator Marcello Dantas, invited by the artist, saw the rare stellar phenomenon of a supernova in the resulting photographs. The series includes an installation, Supernova – Domo, a planetarium-like piece with four projectors displaying the images on a dome, where visitors can lie on upholstery to observe the artist's creations. This installation was also shown at SP-Arte until April 7. Coimbra, who has photographed for numerous books by renowned chefs worldwide and collaborated with artists like Ai Weiwei, now focuses on fine art, blending culinary techniques with visual experimentation to explore cosmic themes through material transformation.
