Sergio Castellitto appointed president of Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia

Sergio Castellitto has been appointed as the new president of the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia (CSC), succeeding Marta Donzelli, who resigned in early August alongside board members Cristiana Capotondi and Guendalina Ponti. This decision follows significant protests from CSC students in July, who were backed by prominent Italian filmmakers such as Sorrentino, Bellocchio, and Moretti. They opposed a League party amendment to the Giubileo decree that would change the institute's governance by eliminating the director general role and placing the Scientific Committee under the direct oversight of the Ministries of Culture, Education, and Economy. Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano officially appointed Castellitto and other board members, emphasizing that the new board aims to enhance quality despite previous controversies. The nominations await approval from the Culture Committees of the Chamber and Senate within 20 days. Castellitto has yet to provide a statement. Concerns linger regarding the influence of the right-wing government on CSC's future.
