Sergio Bianchi: The Underrated Architect of Bellegra and Rainbow

Architect Sergio Bianchi, a pupil of Luigi Pellegrin, remains largely unknown despite acclaimed works like the house in Bellegra and the Rainbow headquarters in Loreto. In 2000, a competition for a house in Bellegra, commissioned by Nicola De Risi of InArch, saw Bianchi's design win alongside a more conventional one by Giovanni d'Ambrosio. De Risi chose Bianchi's project, overcoming bureaucratic hurdles to realize it. Later, Renzo Piano praised the house in a Utet Scienze Tecniche volume. In 2010, Bianchi designed the Rainbow headquarters in Loreto, an elegant lightweight structure. He also curated exhibitions for Pellegrin's archive, admired by James Wines and visited by Massimiliano Fuksas. Recently, Bianchi submitted a visionary project for The Free Republic of Liberland, a disputed territory between Croatia and Serbia, and designs for Mars habitats. His work emphasizes concrete professionalism without accepting the status quo, a path also followed by Leonardo Ricci.
