Serge Gainsbourg's Paris home opens as museum with daughter Charlotte's intimate audio tour

Maison Gainsbourg, located at 5 bis rue de Verneuil in Paris, has been transformed into a museum honoring the late French singer-songwriter Serge Gainsbourg, who passed away in 1991. The museum preserves various personal items such as police badges, handcuffs, and worn Repetto shoes. The dimly lit space, characterized by black fabric walls and low ceilings, evokes a sense of confinement. An audio guide, voiced by Gainsbourg's daughter Charlotte, recounts her childhood experiences, including insights into her mother Jane Birkin's habits and her father's eccentricities. Following Birkin's departure in 1980, Gainsbourg sealed off the girls' bedroom. The exhibition also showcases his interests, featuring works by Huysmans and a bronze piece by Claude Lalanne, as Charlotte strives to faithfully represent her father's legacy.
