Serena Carbone on Relational Art and Marcel Broodthaers

artist · 2026-04-27

Born in 1981, Serena Carbone is an Italian art critic and historian whose work centers on art, history, and society. In 2019, she curated the exhibition 'No, Oreste, No. Diari da un archivio impossibile' at MAMbo in Bologna. Carbone also teaches humanities, has experience in prison education, contributes to Il manifesto and Antinomie, and has published two books: 'L'arte in preda al possibile. Pratiche di costruzione di comunità' (2023) and 'Marcel Broodthaers. Poetiche dell'ombra' (2018). In an interview for the 'Dialoghi di Estetica' series on Artribune, led by Davide Dal Sasso, she examines Broodthaers's critique of the cultural industry, focusing on the concept of 'being prey to the possible,' and discusses his 'poetics of shadow' and the 1975 exhibition 'Décor. A Conquest.'
