Sequences VI Real Time Art Festival transforms Reykjavik's Hótel Holt with immersive installations and performances

festival-fair · 2026-04-20

The Sequences VI Real Time Art Festival unfolded at Reykjavik's Hótel Holt, curated by Markús Þór Andrésson. Hans Rosenström's sound installation in Room 206 featured spatially accurate surround sound that created psychosomatic sensations for visitors. Magnús Logi Kristinsson performed a durational piece involving confinement in a painted wooden container. Úlfur Grönvold executed a performance with phone directories taped to his feet while drawing on paper. Rebekka Erin Moran presented a film-based installation in Room 413 using 16mm film projected through colored Perspex. Ragnar Kjartansson created self-portraits during a previous hotel stay, displayed alongside works by his namesake grandfather. The festival included Icelandic communist sing-alongs and treasure hunts in the historic hotel. ArtReview magazine will publish a comprehensive review in its June issue.
