Senigallia seeks unpaid museum director for three years

The municipality of Senigallia, Italy, has issued a public call for a director of the Museo Comunale d'Arte Moderna e dell'Informazione e della Fotografia (Musinf), specifying that the three-year position is entirely unpaid. The announcement has sparked outrage from the collective 'Mi Riconosci? Sono un professionista dei beni culturali,' which demands its withdrawal, calling the request 'inconceivable' and 'profoundly immoral' coming from a public administration. Mayor Maurizio Mangialardi defended the decision, noting that other cultural roles in the city, such as the director of the Museo della Mezzadria and the Luas free university for seniors, are also unpaid. He explained that the previous director, Professor Carlo Bugatti, who passed away in March, had served voluntarily for 22 years. Bugatti was the founder of Musinf and also established the Museo Nori de' Nobili in Trecastelli and contributed to other cultural centers. The Musinf, established in 1981, documents the relationship between word and image in information art, including copy art, visual poetry, computer art, and fax art. Its collections include works by Valeriano Trubbiani, Orfeo Tamburi, Domenico Purificato, Remo Brindisi, and Ernesto Treccani, as well as an archive of photographs by Mario Giacomelli and Cavalli, and the Archivio dell'Autoritratto Fotografico curated by Giorgio Bonomi. The deadline for applications is July 10.
