SelgasCano Debuts in France with Pavillon Martell at Cognac

architecture-design · 2026-05-05

Spanish architects José Selgas and Lucía Cano of SelgasCano have unveiled their inaugural project in France: the Pavillon Martell. This temporary structure, situated in the 2,350-square-meter courtyard of the Fondation d'Entreprise Martell in Cognac, will remain accessible until June 30, 2018. Crafted for cultural events, the pavilion utilizes waterproof polyester and fiberglass from Onduline, evoking the appearance of Japanese rice paper. An organic landscape is formed by the metal-framed design, complemented by yellow inflatable seating for visitors to relax in the 'temporary labyrinth.' Once the pavilion is taken down, the materials will be repurposed for upcoming projects. The architects express their vision, asserting, 'Nature must prevail over architecture.'
