Selfself: crowdfunding platform for emerging photographers launches

Selfself, an online platform founded by Andrea Galbusera (Art Director and Graphic Designer) and Martina Parolo (Photographer and Photo Editor), uses crowdfunding to produce photo books for emerging Italian photographers. Every quarter, six authors are selected; the community funds them by purchasing reward packages. Donors receive a token of contribution and are mentioned in the book. If a campaign fails, rewards under €25 (postcards, posters, tote bags) are still delivered while larger donations are refunded. If successful, Selfself prints 100 copies per book, distributed through selected bookstores and industry platforms. The platform aims to remove economic barriers and leverage digital tools and community engagement. Photographers are chosen based on curatorial criteria favoring emerging, multi-faceted Italian artists. Projects must show strong author involvement and a narrative suitable for book form. Submissions are accepted via email with a text summary and 20-30 images. Selfself wants to give young authors visibility and a chance to produce an author's book without editorial constraints, similar to a show but funded collectively.
