Selfie Museum to Open in Rome's Zoomarine Theme Park

A Selfie Museum, the first of its kind in Italy, will open within the Zoomarine water and amusement park in Rome in the coming months. Spanning 400 square meters, the museum will feature 25 open and sanitized stations where visitors can take selfies in various settings, such as falling from a skyscraper, swimming in a pool with 15,000 balls, or walking upside down on a ceiling. The museum also aims to educate visitors on the history and culture of selfies, citing Jean Fouquet's 1455 self-portrait as an early example and the first group selfie taken in New York in 1920. Similar pop-up museums dedicated to selfies have appeared in Los Angeles, Dubai, Miami, and Budapest. The trend of opening museums focused on specific pop culture themes has grown in recent years, particularly in the United States, with examples including Spyscape (designed by Adjaye Associates), the Museum of Selfie, the Ice Cream Museum, the Museum of Candy, MoPi (Museum of Pizza), Color Factory, the National Comedy Center, Human's Best Friend, and the Museum of Sweets & Selfies.
