Selcouth Duo's 'Incipit' Blurs Nature and City at Rome's Cosmo
The artistic duo Selcouth, comprising musician Filippo Fossà and documentarian Emanuele Quartarone, presents their first exhibition 'Incipit' at Cosmo in Rome's Trastevere district, curated by Nicoletta Provenzano. The show explores the secret network of organisms thriving in Rome's urban fabric. Vegetal installations—including figs, capers, and Cymbalaria muralis—cast shadows on raw brick walls evoking ancient Roman walls. The lower floor features photographs bordering on the figurative, revealed as frames from three videos projected sequentially in the final room. Works like 'Starlings,' 'Lichens,' and 'Swamp' combine roaring, acidic sounds with images of swirling flocks, blooms, bulbs, and suckers. The Caffarella park and the Aurelian Walls, among the artists' study and inspiration sites, appear unrecognizable, immersed in a swampy, dreamlike atmosphere. The hybrid space is directed by Zaelia Bishop.
