Seiko's Power Design Project 2026: Playful Watches at Japan House London

exhibition · 2026-08-18

Seiko's annual Power Design Project, titled 'Passionately and Obsessively Crafted Watches', returns to Japan House London from 27 August to 15 September 2026. The exhibition showcases the creative freedom given to Seiko's in-house designers to reinterpret traditional watch components, such as dial textures, hands, and surfaces. This year's designs feature playful elements like cat-shaped hands, textured mazes instead of bar indices, and positive text-based day indicators. Grand Seiko design director Shinichiro Kubo initiated the project's relaunch in 2022, encouraging designers to submit unconventional ideas without holding back. Hisashi Fujieda, manager of Seiko's R&D Department, hopes the exhibition will help people rediscover the appeal of analogue watches in a digital age, especially as fewer people can read analogue timepieces. Kubo notes that the project has successfully engaged audiences beyond traditional watch enthusiasts. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
