Seeyousound 2019: Music Film Festival in Turin Wraps Up Fifth Edition
The fifth edition of the Seeyousound International Music Film Festival in Turin has concluded, featuring ten days of film screenings, documentaries, and music videos centered on music. The festival took place at the Cinema Massimo, near the Museo del Cinema at the Mole Antonelliana. The opening night featured Johannes Schaff's Symphony of Now, a contemporary update of Walter Ruttmann's Berlin: Symphony of a Great City, preceded by a live set from Alex Do. The film received mixed reviews for its stereotypical portrayal of Berlin. The Into the Groove section included documentaries on Studio 54 and Hansa Studios, the latter covering the legendary West Berlin recording studios during the Cold War era, featuring artists like David Bowie, Iggy Pop, and Nick Cave. A notable live accompaniment was Songs with Other Strangers, a documentary about a 2010 concert by nine musicians without a frontman, including Manuel Agnelli, Rodrigo D'Erasmo, Hugo Race, John Parish, Stef Kamil Carlens, Steve Wynn, and Giorgia Poli, directed by Vittorio Bongiorno from an idea by Cesare Basile and Marta Collica. Another event was Torso Virile Colossale, a project by Alessandro Grazian dedicated to Italian Peplum cinema, performed live by Grazian, Nicola Manzan, Kole Laca, Luciano Macchia, and Emanuele Alosi. The LP Feature section screened Bomb City, an independent American film by James Brooks based on the true story of the murder of punk musician Brian Daneke in Texas in 1997.
