Seet van Hout's Studio Visit: Pouring Paint and Memory in Nijmegen
Seet van Hout, a Dutch artist born in Nijmegen in 1957, has spent four decades merging painting, textile, and installation. Her artwork is characterized by vivid colors and striking blood-red lines that represent memory. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she produced 444 daily canvases in her studio in Nijmegen, alongside her partner Uwe Poth. After her studies at the art academy in Den Bosch (1975–1977) and Vrije Kunst in Arnhem, she received early recognition from Galerie Goem (1984) and Galerie Liesbeth Lips. Her artistic approach, influenced by her travels to Kenya, Philadelphia (1986), and India (from 1997), includes pouring paint onto canvas. Notable projects include 'BACK UP' at Museum het Valkhof (2019) and 'Genaaid, Gebonden' by 99Uitgevers. She has also shown her work at ROOF-A Gallery and Galerie Deschler and was awarded the Koninklijke Subsidie voor de Schilderkunst.
